What size cards do you make the most?
For me it is A2 cards, they are what I started with when I first started cardmaking and they are still the size card I make the most frequently. But lately, I’ve been enjoying working with different card sizes and shapes. Now, I’m really not a fan of full sized slimline cards, but mini slimline cards?! Those I love!
The February image for the Inspiration Station Challenge features an adorable cat and dog against a white background so I decide to keep my card fairly clean and simple. And of course I had to use some adorable cat and dog stamps from my stash!
The Inspiration Station Challenge: February
The Inspiration Station Challenge is a monthly challenge for all types of crafty projects. It starts the first Monday of each month and runs to the end of the month. Each month there is a new image to use for inspiration and it is a perfect way to jump start you creativity!
You can find all the details and link up your projects to play along on the Inspiration Station Challenge Blog!
Making the cardbase
To make this card, I started by creating my cardbase. I make my mini slimline cards to be 3.25 x 6.25 inches (mostly because then they fit in the mini slimline envelopes I bought!). So I cut a piece of white cardstock to 6.25 x 6.5 inch square and then scored it using my Scor-Buddy at 3.25 inches on the long side. After folding along the score line, it forms a 3.25 x 6.25 inch mini slimline card. I used my 80lb cardstock for this cardbase, I usually use 110lb weight cardstock for cardbases but I find heavy weight cardstock is too stiff for mini slimline cards and they don’t end up folding nicely so I used a lighter weight this time.
Making the card
I used the Deck Planks 3D embossing folder to emboss my cardfront panel. When I have lots of white space on a card I like to add some texture to add interest. I adhered this embossed panel directly onto the cardbase with some score-tape.
Then I stamped and coloured some cat and dog images from Sunny Studio Stamps. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder onto black cardstock and cut it out to make a sentiment strip. Then I adhered the images and sentiment with some thin foam squares. To finish I added some clear Nuvo Drops over the heart images for some shine.
This card fits perfectly in the mini slimline envelopes I have from Simon Says Stamp. The envelops measure 6.5 x 3.5 inches so a 3.35 x 6.25 inch card fits nicely inside with a little bit of wiggle room.
